Berna Dolmacı

Visual Artist

Berna Dolmacı was born in Akşehir in 1994. The artist completed her undergraduate education in DEU Fine Arts Faculty, Painting Department and continues her master education in DEU-GSE Painting Department Art Major. Sketchbook practice is at the heart of the works of the artist, who lives and produces in İzmir. These visual diaries she created later evolved into a collage technique with the desire to create images with different materials. Since 2017, she has gone beyond the sketchbook and started to produce large collages with waste paper that she colored with non-industrial organic materials. Since 2018, the connection of collages with the space has become stronger, and they have emerged as large installations and space coverings in process-oriented public spaces. Since 2019, she has been producing her works with an ecology-based art approach. Since 2020, she has been producing her works by spending a certain period on the lands she has chosen. The artist received awards from competitive exhibitions such as Akbank Sanat (Today’s Artists), Base, Cern Modern (Young Art), Rota Sanat, and took part in projects such as Balconnection, Otonom (KABO), Darağaç III, Globe Era, Misi’s Flora and Nilüfer Art Workshop.

MAI

A smell… passed and gone.
Stories stuck in the depths of the “past” time are unlocked.
-spaces, trees, birds, insects, and even all the moments we interact with water.
(….)
She began by listening out to do what she does the best – getting lost.
With the blue, the green, the brown – she got lost with everything that the water feeds.

Arrangement made with clay, sawdust, dried plants, soil and organic paint on cloth, and organic paint obtained from clay, ash henna, grounds, seeds and flowers on waste paper placed in found frames of different sizes.
